Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, has publicly criticised the handling of allegations involving singer Simi by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The agency had earlier stated on Tuesday, February 24, that it was prepared to investigate credible claims following public calls for a probe into resurfaced tweets allegedly made by Simi over a decade ago while she worked at her mother’s daycare. NAPTIP encouraged individuals with verifiable information to submit details confidentially through its official channels.
Reacting on his X page, Speed Darlington questioned whether gender played a role in the agency’s approach. He referenced 2025, when he said he was declared wanted over comments involving a minor, arguing that authorities responded more forcefully in his case.
“NAPTIP is it because she is a woman?” he wrote.
The rapper further compared both situations, suggesting that enforcement agencies tend to act more aggressively against men. He also broadened his remarks to address what he described as a societal bias in how crimes are labelled and perceived.
“As society evolved, crime titles somehow became masculine… kingpin, drug lord, cartel boss. But women commit same crimes too. You rarely hear ‘Queenpin’ or ‘cartel queen.’ Why is that?” he wrote.
He maintained that public narratives often lean toward sympathy when women are accused of wrongdoing.
“When a woman commits a crime, the narrative often shifts to sympathy. Why the double standard?” he asked.
