Singer Speed Darlington has filed a ₦300 million lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, citing unlawful detention.
The artist was arrested in late 2024 over alleged defamatory and cyberstalking comments directed at Afrobeat star Burna Boy. Despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court on December 23, 2024, Darlington remained in police custody, prompting outrage from his legal team and fans.
Darlington’s lawyer accused Burna Boy of influencing the police to prolong his detention. Following a fresh court order on January 6, 2025, demanding Darlington’s release, the singer swiftly filed the lawsuit, alleging a violation of his fundamental rights.
The case has sparked widespread discussions online, with many calling for accountability and justice.
