Controversial Nigerian artist Speed Darlington has spoken out following his release from an extended period of incarceration.
According to Naijalog, Darlington was initially arrested on allegations of cyberstalking after claiming that Burna Boy’s Grammy win was due to his connections with embattled American rapper Diddy, who is currently facing multiple sex trafficking and rape charges.
After being released on bail in October, Darlington vowed to continue his public criticism until Burna Boy compensated him. However, he was rearrested during a performance in Imo State on November 27, 2024, and subsequently held at Kuje Prison for an extended time.
In a video shared on Instagram during his detention, Darlington’s lawyer accused Burna Boy of bribing the police to prolong his incarceration, despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court on December 23. Darlington was finally released on January 21, 2025.
In response to Darlington’s release, Burna Boy reportedly took to Instagram, warning that Darlington would find himself back in jail if he misbehaved again. The post was later deleted.
While many expected Darlington to emerge from detention regretful and subdued, he defied expectations by sharing a bold Instagram post. Ignoring Burna Boy’s warning, Darlington uploaded a video of two rams locked in a fierce battle, with their horns clashing. He captioned the clip: “I’m back. To those fighting, one step back is not running away; it’s gathering energy to come back with a banger!”
