The Director-General of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr Joseph Odumodu has announced a war embarked on by its agency to fight the importation of substandard products by foreign manufacturing companies into the country.

Disclosing this in Lagos on Wednesday to newsmen at the sensitization seminar on the integration of SON’s e-certificates into Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS) for processing SONCAP Form ‘M’ and PAAR tagged ‘Trade Facilitation via automation of SON’s services’, the DG said Nigeria Manufacturers are competing with substandard products from abroad.

The DG however said the agency was doing everything possible to ensure that the importation of substandard products into the country was low by 10 percent.

“Our target is to reduce the importation of substandard goods to 10 percent. We have killed our industry because they are competing with substandard products. ‎We need to do things that will make a lot of differences to us.” He said.
