Nigerian rapper and singer-songwriter Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, has openly criticized GTBank, calling it the “worst bank in Nigeria.” His remarks come in the heat of the ongoing controversy involving popular influencer VeryDarkMan, the EFCC, and the bank.
Skales took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his frustration, following reports that VeryDarkMan was arrested on GTBank premises after what supporters described as a deliberate delay by the bank.
In his post, Skales recalled a painful experience involving his late mother, claiming GTBank repeatedly made unauthorized deductions from her salary account. According to him, he had to cover her losses and convince her not to pursue legal action, even as the alleged mishandling continued until her retirement.
He wrote:
“GTB @gtbank is a horrible bank… the worst bank in Nigeria. I wish my late mom was alive to tell you what they did to her salary… how her money was lost, and I had to beg her by compensating her because she wouldn’t quit her job until she retired… do not bank with GTBank.”
The post quickly gained traction, sparking an outpouring of similar stories from social media users who also shared negative experiences with the bank.
Some of the reactions include:
@accurateoficial: “So why are you just speaking now?”
@__CD2: “I opened a GTBank account a few weeks ago. Thank God I haven’t started using it.”
@MattMax01: “Same happened to my mom too. I even took her to open the account. She eventually closed it.”
@everytin_bec: “You can talk about your personal experience, but saying ‘don’t bank with GTBank’ might be too far. Remember, you’re a public figure.”
