On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the Federal government’s commitment to stabilizing and developing the Northeast area, adding his principal, President Bola Tinubu, has Nigeria’s best interests at heart.
Shettima met with the board and management of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), led by its chairman Maj. Gen. Paul Tarfa, on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to deliver the North-East Stabilization and Development Master Plan (NESDMP).
The President has good intentions for the country, according to Vice President Shettima. Bola Tinubu’s soul has been revealed to me, and I won’t stop expressing that.
The Vice President was given a copy of the Northeast Development Strategy and Plan document by the regional authorities.
Shettima noted that the delegation represents the diversity of the Northeast geopolitical zone and is made up of the region’s elite. Shettima claimed that due to their advanced age, the group was simply fighting for the interests of their children and grandkids, not for any financial gain.
He gave the group the assurance that the Northeast Development Strategy and Plan document will reach the NEDC’s managing director in less than 48 hours.
Shettima emphasized the need of open leadership while recalling how the board and management of NEDC had visited him on Wednesday and given him a 10-year master plan for the region’s development.
In his words: “If you put in place a leadership that is incompetent and corrupt, you cannot get a cent from these agencies. 80% of the predicted NEDC budgeted fund is coming from international agencies.
“I gave the NEDC management the responsibility of seeing that they make real investments in three crucial areas: digital education, irrigation technology for agriculture, and electric vehicle technology.
“Poverty, instability, and destitution unite us all. Religion or race are not the issue. Religion has devolved into a collection of meaningless rituals. To combat these shared threats, we must band together, the Vice President said.
