Police have released images of three members of a gang of six men suspected of at least two brutal gang-rapes and robberies.
Police say the group of six men approached the first victims, a 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman around 10pm, forcing them into the alleyway at gunpoint. They robbed the victims and forced them to remove their clothing before holding the man to the ground and sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
After the attackers left, the victims are reported to have run, nearly nude, to a liquor store for help.
The second couple, a 21-year-old man and 19-year-old woman, were attacked in the same manner around 2:40am.
The suspects were seen near a blue Ford SUV, but it is unknown if they were driving it.
Police are also investigating whether the men are connected to a similar attack on July 11th.
Detroit has become notorious for its crime rate and is generally considered the most dangerous major city in the US. In 2013 there were 316 murders and 14,500 violent crimes.
Detroit police are currently working through a backlog of over 11,000 untested rape kits, some dating back to 1984.
