World number 1 Serena Williams, got the shock of her life early this morning when Serbian Ana Ivanovic sent her packing from the Aussie Open. The match which was played at Rod Laver Arena saw the world number 14 at her best, and with Serena committing 29 unforced errors, the match was pretty much in Ana’s court.
It took Ana just 56 minutes to see Serena off the court, and spoil Serena’s chance of winning her 6th Australian Open, and 18th Grand Slam title. This is the biggest upset so far this year.
Novak Djokovic on the other hand cruised into the last 8 with a 6-3, 6-0, 6-2, demolishing of Italy’s Fabio Fognini. With this win Djokovic reached his seventh successive Australian Open quarterfinals.
Serena’s loss today has raised the hope of other players, as this might be their chance to win the title.
Other winners today include: Li Na, Flavia Pennetta, and Tomas Berdych.
