Ahmad Lawan, President of the Nigerian Senate, has won the senatorial election for Yobe North in Yobe State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Lawan the winner on Sunday night, announcing that he received 91,318 votes, representing 74.7 percent of the total valid votes (122,193), defeating his closest rival, Bello Ilu of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 22,849 votes.

Lawan has won seven consecutive parliamentary elections to the National Assembly since 1999. The first two gave him House of Representatives tickets, while the remaining five gave him Senate tickets.
