Human rights activist and #FreeNnamdiKanuNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been arrested by security agents at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said Sowore was apprehended shortly after exchanging pleasantries with the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, within the court premises.
Linked to #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest
The arrest is believed to be connected to the recent #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja, where demonstrators demanded the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu. The protest was met with a heavy security presence, use of tear gas, and several arrests.
Among those detained during the rally were Barrister Aloy Ejimakor (Kanu’s lawyer), Emmanuel Kanu (Kanu’s brother), and 11 other activists.
Sowore’s Escape and Arrest
Reports indicate that Sowore narrowly escaped arrest during the protest after security operatives used tear gas to disperse the crowd. However, during Kanu’s court appearance today, he was re-arrested shortly after greeting the IPOB leader.
Activism and Government Tensions
Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and a longtime critic of the Nigerian government, has faced several arrests over his activism and pro-democracy campaigns.
His latest detention adds to the growing tensions between security agencies and human rights activists across the country.
