Sanusi Lamido, the deposed Emir of Kano, has informed the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, that he is not a member of any political party. While speaking on “Improving subnational resilience against global economic chocks” in Kaduna on Saturday, October 15, PM News reported that Sanusi told Tinubu that Nigeria is his party.
During his address to the audience, in which Tinubu was in attendance, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said:
“I keep repeating, hope you remember that I lost my job at the central bank for this same problem. It is not about a particular party. I have no party. My party is Nigeria. This is the problem we had in 2014. Asiwaju (Tinubu) knows my party is Nigeria.”
The grand Khalifah of Nigeria’s Tijaniyyah Movement bemoaned the country’s economic woes, which included oil theft, rising debt, unbalanced subsidy payments, and soaring foreign exchange rates. He then urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited’s management to be transparent and credible.
The former Emir of Kano has stated that if Nigeria’s dying economy is not saved on time, the country will end up in a similar situation to Mali and Burkina Faso. According to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria’s economy is strongly intertwined to the oil and gas sector, and fuel subsidies have suppressed economic growth. The grand Khalifah of Nigeria’s Tijaniyyal Movement made the claim while expressing sympathy for President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.
