Nigerian record producer Samklef has publicly alleged that music superstar Davido is responsible for the toxic atmosphere and intense rivalry currently plaguing the country’s music scene.
The Context
These comments were made in response to a recent post by fellow producer-turned-singer Pheelz, who lamented the negative impact of constant comparisons among artists.
Pheelz had written:
“Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared. This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know,”
Pointing Fingers at Davido
Weighing in on the discussion, Samklef argued that the industry was defined by mutual respect and fun during the early rise of stars like Wizkid and Olamide. However, he contended that the landscape shifted negatively upon Davido’s arrival, alleging that the singer introduced aggression and unethical practices such as streaming fraud and threats.
He wrote:
“Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love.
“Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music.
“Then one Scorpio boy who moves like diddy..Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic.
“Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere.”
Public Reaction
Samklef’s remarks have generated a flurry of mixed responses online, with numerous users criticizing him for unfairly placing the blame for the industry’s issues solely on Davido. As of now, Davido has not issued a response to these accusations.
