Former England manager Fabio Capello and ex-Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp are among the candidates to be Russia’s next manager.

The Russia Football Union (RFU) has released a list of potential replacements which also includes former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.

Ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is also on the list as Russia seek a replacement for Dick Advocaat.

Redknapp, 65, had been the favourite to succeed Capello after the Italian resigned as England manager in February.

But the former West Ham and Portsmouth boss was overlooked as the Football Association turned to Roy Hodgson.

Whether Redknapp would be interested in managing a national side abroad remains to be seen.

But his efforts during four years at Tottenham, which included steering the London club to the Champions League quarter-finals in 2010-11, have clearly been recognised by Russia.

The RFU statement read: “The Russian Football Union has officially informed that the organisation plans to consult, in full compliance with the rules of Fifa and Uefa, the appointment of the head coach of Russian national team, with the following experts:

“Rafael Benitez, Anatoliy Byshovets, Marcelo Bielsa, Valery Gazzaev, Josep Guardiola, Fabio Capello, Andrei Kobelev, Yuri Krasnozhan, Marcello Lippi, Valery Nepomnyashchy, Nikolai Pisarev, Harry Redknapp, Yuri Semin.”

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini had also been linked with the job before the Premier League champions announced on Monday that the Italian had signed a new five-year contract.

Guardiola’s inclusion comes despite the Spaniard having repeatedly stated he would take a year’s sabbatical after opting not to renew his Barcelona deal.
