Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo and German midfielder, Nadine Kessler, have both won the Men’s World Player of the Year and Women’s World Player of the Year respectively.
Ronaldo and Kessler were announced winner on Monday at a ceremony in Zurich. Ronaldo beat fourth times winner,Lionel Messi, and German goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, to win Ballon d’Or for a third time.
James Rodriguez won the goal of the year award and Germany’s Joachim Loew was declared coach of the year.
Ronaldo who won the ballon d’Or in 2008 and in 2013 said: “I never thought I would win this trophy on three occasions,” “I want to be one of the greatest players of all time and of course this requires a lot of effort,” he noted.
