With the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil just few weeks away, Australian youngster Tom Rogic is close to full fitness after sustaining a groin injury which put a end to his season with Melbourne Victory, the team he joined in January from Scottish champions Celtic.
The midfielder whom Australia’s Coach Ange Postecoglou described as “leading light” was adviced to make the switch in January to afford him playing time ahead of the World Cup tournament. The player made his debut in 2012 for the Australian team and has been seen as a prospect for the team rebuilding by the coach.
The 21-year old Rogic declared that; “I came back and played a good amount of games in a short period of time. It was unfortunate to be injured for the last three or four weeks of the season. But I’ve been training fully the last few days and the last couple of weeks too. So I’m slowly building.”
The Socceroos face has been drawn in Group B with defending champion Spain, the Netherlands and Chile. Their first match is Chile on 13 June. The team will be playing a warm-up match in Sydney against South Africa before heading for Brazil.
