Robin van Persie has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad to face Germany this week.
The striker picked up a thigh injury during Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, and has now pulled out of Louis van Gaal’s plans for the match in Amsterdam on Wednesday.
While the injury is not though to be particularly serious, it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will be fit for the Red Devils’ next Premier League game away to Norwich City at the weekend.
Jordy Clasie, Ruben Schaken, Stefan de Vrij, Bas Dost and Jeroen Zoet have been added to the Oranje squad for the clash with Joachim Low’s side, as the more experienced options of Martin Stekelenburg, Luciano Narsingh, Kevin Strootman and Jeremain Lens have already been ruled out through injury.
Netherlands take on Germany at the Amsterdam ArenA at 19:30 UTC this coming Wednesday.
