Despite severe economic problems, President Robert Mugabe has allegedly bought a $1.4 million diamond wedding to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his wedding with Grace Mugabe, the First Lady.
The news which has his been reported in the front page of many papers in Zimbabwe was revealed in an affidavit by Jamal Ahmed, a Lebenase citizen who bought the ring on behalf of the Mugabe’s.
Reports say that Mugabe bought the diamond ring worth US$1.4 million from diamond dealer, Ahmed, in Dubai last year. The deal has however gone sour after Grace who has now decided she no longer wants the ring, seized Ahmed’s proprieties and is now demanding a refund.
Grace has confiscated three Harare properties, one in Pomona and two in Avondale which belong to the dealer.
According to court paper obtained Grace paid for the ring in full using a Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe account and US$1,350,000 was wired to Dubai. After the ring was delivered Grace decided she did not want it and demanded her money back.
