The Ogun State Police Command has paraded a self acclaimed pastor , Revd. Ndubuisi Ignatius alongside 38 others for various offences ranging from cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping.
Revd. Ignatius who has pretended to be a spiritual father to the family of one James Nwosu in Agbara area of Ogun State accomplished his mission a fortnight ago when he held the family hostage and robbed them of a cash sum of N3.7 million at gunpoint. Ignatius was eventually apprehended by the police.
Speaking at the Police Headquarters, the Ogun State Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye explained that the suspect masked himself and robbed the victims but was later arrested through the victim’s phones which he also stole.
He was said to have demanded for another one million naira from his victims, claiming to have a spiritual power to apprehend the culprits.
According to Commissioner Okoye, the cash sum of three million, one hundred and ninety thousand naira has been recovered from Ignatius. Okoye also added that Ignatius will soon appear in court.
The Police Commissioner also announced that twelve suspects were arrested for armed robbery at various areas of Ogun state between February and March, 2014.
According to him, eight suspects who specialised in robbing Bureau De Change were arrested at Iyana Ilogbo area of Ifo in Ifo local government area of the state by a team of Special Anti Robbery Squad of the command led by one Inspector David Akingbade.
The leader of the robbery team, Audu Rabiu who is a son to the chairman of the local Bureau de Change operators in the area confessed to the crime and said that his team has only succeeded in four operations where a total of 25.6 million CFA Francs were stolen from their victims. One Pump Action gun, one cut-to-size double barrelled gun, two double barrelled pistols and 25 live cartridges were among the weapons and ammunition recovered from them.
Another two suspects, according to the Police, who specialised in robbing bank customers were arrested by team of officera from Agabara division of the command after dispossessing the victim, Obanla Isiaka ofN650,000.00. The suspects, John Enajamo and Blessing Gonume both of Festac town, Lagos confessed to the crime and their confession led to the arrest of another member of the group, Stanley Odimoku while another suspect simply identified as Aliu is on the wanted list of the police.
Seventeen suspected cult members in their late 20s were also arrested from Iperu town area of Ogun State while locally made gun and two axes were recovered from them. The leader of the gang, Ogungbe Adeleke confessed to being a member of Eiye Confraternity before the arrest but explained that they only joined the secret organisation for self protection.
Commissioner Okoye reiterated that “the command will not tolerate any act of hooliganism or criminal tendencies capable of jeopardising the smooth. Security networking on ground in Ogun State.”
