Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, on Monday, staged a protest to demanded immediate and unconditional release of the school from the two owner governors.
The aggrieved students in their hundreds marched to the Oyo State Secretariat to register their grievances over the 7 months closure of the institution by the ownership state due to inadequate funding.
With differents inscriptions on their placards, they demanded the immediate payment of all outstanding salaries and allowances of striking workers, no to hike in school fees, improved funding and democratic management of LAUTECH and restoration of LAUTECH Students’ Union.
The students, under the auspices of Save Education and Reopen LAUTECH Coalition (SERAL-C) appealed to the Osun and Oyo state governors, to reopen their school.
The students need to protest if not their school will be permanently closed down due to lack of funding.
What a shame. Two states cannot unanimously fund a school. Too bad. Why can’t they invite private investors then? The fees would go up, surely. But, is it not better. LAUTECH has been embattled in this issue of low or no fund for too long.
