Popular Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has reportedly passed away.
The news of her death was shared by cleric Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah on his Facebook page on Tuesday morning. In his post, he expressed condolences to her family, writing: “Our Sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great lost! May Allah forgive her shortcomings! RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”
Jubril Gawat, a relative of the singer and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also confirmed her passing in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning.
He tweeted: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (Quran 2:156).
In a quoted tweet, Gboyega Akosile, an aide to Governor Sanwo-Olu, offered his condolences, saying, “Ina lillahi waina ilaehi rajiun. May Almighty Allah, the giver and taker of life, console the family of my dear brothers @Mr_JAGs @tfk_gawat on the passing of our beloved sister, Rukayat. May Aljannah Firdaus be her eternal home, and may Allah grant the family the strength to bear this great loss.”
