The misconception about his faith stems from his name, Wasiu, and the Islamic burial rites observed for his late mother, Alhaja Halima Anifowoshe, who was laid to rest in January 2025.
However, during a recent appearance on the Agbaletu Radiovision podcast, the 68-year-old music legend opened up about his spiritual life, clarifying that he is a committed member of the Celestial Church of Christ.
Speaking on his journey of faith, the “Ade Ori Okin” crooner shared that during challenging periods in his life, he turned to both Christianity and Islam in search of divine guidance and deeper spiritual understanding.
“Yes, I attend the Celestial church, I’m a bonafide member of the Celestial church of Christ, a proud one. In fact, I built a church.
“During my difficult time, I sought religion and the face of God in two different ways. There’s no place I didn’t seek God’s face,” he said.
Kwam1’s disclosure has surprised many fans who assumed he practiced Islam, especially considering the public observance of Islamic customs at his mother’s burial.
