Socio-political commentator Reno Omokri has clarified that his backing of President Bola Tinubu’s administration is motivated by patriotism, not financial gain.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels TV on Wednesday, the former presidential aide addressed growing speculation that he is being compensated by the APC-led government due to his consistent endorsement of the President’s policies.
Omokri, known for his vocal criticism of opposition figures such as Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, insisted that his actions stem from a deep love for the country.
He dismissed the claims of being on the government’s payroll and cited his personal investments in national matters as evidence of his sincerity.
“So who was paying me between 2025 and 2023 when I was traveling over on matters concerning Nigeria?
Why would anyone give me money? I’m doing this not just for the love I have for Tinubu but the love I have for Nigeria.
Right now, I’m in Lagos and I don’t live here. I came to Lagos because people have spread wrong information about the Lagos-Calaba coastal highway.
I bought a ticket with my own money, then I came and gathered journalists. I also gathered members of the public, ordinary Nigerians. I bought a drone with my own money to verify that indeed the 30 kilometers highway is complete.”
