In a Baba Suwe like scenario, the United States Customs and Border Partol Agency arrested a 52 year old Nigerian woman, Bola Adebisi, upon arrival at Washington Dulles International Airport on March 14 for ingesting nearly five pounds (over 2kg) of heroin pellets.
The discovery now has her in the annals as the largest devourer of hard drugs, a record previously held by another Nigerian, Yomade Aborishade, who was arrested a year ago, after a scan, 100 pellets of heroin weighing 1.814 grams was expelled from her body.
According to reports, the Customs officials smelt rat when Bola could not provide them with the address or telephone number of her brother whom she claimed she had come to visit during a routine random check.
A routine pat down was performed on her by a Narcotics agents and her stomach was found to be peculiarly rigid.
To confirm their worst fear, they took her to a local hospital, where an X-ray detected large amount of unusual objects in her stomach. She was induced and she passed out over 2.175kg of heroin over a three day period.
The street value of the heroin has been put at around $150,000
Christopher Hess, CBP port Director for Washington said, “The amount of pellets and heroin this woman ingested is incredible, a serious health risk, and very troubling if these numbers become the new normal.”
Custom officals have since handed over Adebisi to the office of the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia for prosecution.
