Reports just coming in indicate that a gang of ten men suspected to be cultist , on Wednesday, abducted the Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Technology, Professor Cyprian Onyeji.
Onyeji was abducted at the school gate as he was being driven into the main campus of the institution at 11:30am, by four of the men who had been hiding in a car close to the school gate, waiting for the VC.
Just as his two-vehicle convoy was sighted, the four gunmen used their car to bar the gate, hopped out and started shooting sporadically.
In the pandemonium, six others appeared and attacked the convoy.
They deflated the four tyres of the police van escorting the VC. A policeman in the escort van was shot when he tried to confront them, the gunmen dragged the VC’s aide and driver out of the car and drove off with Onyeji in his official Honda car.
The remaining members of the gang jumped into a getaway vehicle that was waiting in the car park at the school entrance and drove behind the professor’s car.
