The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Attahiru Jega yesterday narrowly escaped being lynched as irate youths in Kazaure hurled stones at his convoy, damaging some vechicles in his entourage.
The incident occurred has he was about leaving the wedding ceremony held by the Emir of Kazaure for his daughter.
Many of the youths who had come to fete with the Emir hurled stones at Mr. Jega’s convoy, accusing him of rigging the 2011 election in favor of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Professor Jega managed to escape, but several cars in his convoy were dented and some of the glasses broken,” a source who was at the wedding said.
