A viral video claiming that United States troops have landed in Nigeria has stirred panic across social media platforms.

The footage, shared on November 6 by an X (formerly Twitter) user named Spaghetti Mafia (@italian_Spencer), alleged that American soldiers had arrived at Bonny Island in Rivers State.

The post’s caption read: “Breaking News: US Army lands in Bonny Island, Rivers State!! Donald Trump wasn’t playing around.”

Within hours, the clip went viral, garnering thousands of views and triggering alarm among Nigerians who believed the claim to be true.

Presidency Debunks Viral Claim

Responding swiftly, the Nigerian Presidency dismissed the report as completely false and misleading.

D.O. Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, directly refuted the post under the viral tweet, writing, “This is false.”

Trump’s Comments Stir More Reactions

The misleading video emerged shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump made controversial remarks accusing the Nigerian government of tolerating attacks on Christian communities.

Trump alleged that Nigeria had failed to protect Christians, warning that the U.S. could suspend all aid to the country. He also declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” and hinted at potential military intervention to combat extremist groups.

His comments drew widespread criticism globally, with China publicly opposing any form of foreign military action and reaffirming its support for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
