All eyes were on the events before kick-off between QPR and Chelsea at Loftus Road and when the action got underway neither side could find a goal as they had to settle for a point apiece to keep Chelsea at the top of the table.
Anton Ferdinand snubbed John Terry and Ashley Cole during the pre-match handshakes between Chelsea and QPR at Loftus Road.
All eyes were on the trio in what was their first encounter since Blues captain Terry was cleared in court of racially abusing Ferdinand, with Cole appearing as a witness for his team-mate.
As the teams lined up for the handshakes Ferdinand ignored Terry’s hand and also missed out Cole further down the line.
Chances were few and far between with Julio Cesar saving well from Eden Hazard in the first half and Bobby Zamora missing a great chance for QPR in the second half.
Manchester United moved into second spot with a comfortable victory over Wigan at Old Trafford.
United were handed the chance to get off to a dream start in the fifth minute when they won a penalty after Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi was judged to have fouled Danny Welbeck in the area.
With Robin van Persie on the bench and Wayne Rooney sidelined through injury Javier Hernandez took responsibility from the penalty spot and his weak effort was well saved by Al Habsi.
After a goalless first half United broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half as Scholes marked his 700th game for United with a goal.
Nani fired over a cross from the right and Al Habsi could only palm it out straight to Scholes who gleefully fired the ball into the unguarded net.
The home side doubled their lead on 63 minutes when Alexander Buttner drilled a ball across the face of goal and Hernandez beat the offside trap to flick the ball home.
Three minutes later United added a third when Dutch defender Buttner celebrated his debut with a goal.
Buttner bundled his way past three challenges inside the box before firing in a shot which Al Habsi somehow let squirm under his body at the near post.
Nick Powell came off the bench to make it 4-0 on 82 minutes with another debut strike.
The former Crewe youngster picked the ball up on the edge of the box from Hernandez’s pass and drilled a shot past Al Habsi to send the home crowd into raptures.

Stoke hit the front after 15 minutes with a controversial effort from Peter Crouch.
The ball broke to Crouch inside the box after the City defence failed to clear their lines and the striker bundled his way past three challenges appearing to handle the ball in the process before stroking the ball past Joe Hart.
The visitors drew level on 35 minutes with a debut goal from new signing Javi Garcia.
Carlos Tevez floated over a free-kick from the left and Garica was left unmarked to head home past Asmir Begovic.
Ryan Shawcross came to Stoke’s rescue in the closing seconds when he cleared the ball off the line after Edin Dzeko had lobbed the ball over Begovic to deny the champions all three points.
Arsenal continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with an impressive 6-1 victory overSouthampton.
Arsenal were gifted the lead after just 11 minutes when Lukas Podolski played Kieran Gibbs in down the left and the full-back’s cross was bundled into his own net by the hapless Jos Hooiveld.
The home side doubled their advantage just past the half hour when Podolski curled a superb free-kick from 25 yards over the wall and past the despairing Kelvin Davis.
Arsenal were picking holes in the Southampton defence and they made it 3-0 on 35 minutes when Mikel Arteta picked out Gervinho inside the box and the Ivory Coast international smashed his shot past Davis at his near post.
Things got even worse for Southampton two minutes later when Gibbs again got in down the left and his cross took a wicked deflection off Nathaniel Clyne before flying into the net.
Southampton gave themselves a glimmer of hope right on the stroke of half-time as Wojciech Szczesny failed to collect Jason Puncheon’s cross and Danny Fox was on hand to smash the ball into the empty net as Arsenal conceded their first goal of the campaign.
Arsenal restored their four-goal cushion on 71 minutes when Aaron Ramsey outfoxed Clyne and drilled in a shot that came back off the post and fell kindly for Gervinho to tap home from a yard out.
Theo Walcott rubbed salt into Southampton’s wounds with a goal against his old club two minutes from time as he found the net after Thomas Vermaelen’s shot was pushed out by Davis.
Luis Suarez’s late goal earned Liverpool a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The Uruguayan struck 19 minutes from time to cancel out Steven Fletcher’s first-half opener to earn Brendan Rodgers’ side a point.
Sunderland looked set to inflict another defeat on Liverpool thanks to Fletcher’s third goal for the club since his big-money arrival from Wolves, but Suarez deservedly secured a point for the visitors.
Dimitar Berbatov started to repay some of his transfer fee for Fulham with a starring role in their victory over West Brom.

Things got worse for West Brom six minutes later when Odemwingie was needlessly sent off for kicking out at Fulham defender Sascha Riether.
The Nigerian lost possession to Riether and then stupidy lashed out at the defender giving referee Roger East no option but to hand him a red card.

Christian Benteke made the game safe for Villa in the closing minutes when he latched onto a poor back header from Ashley Williams to lift the ball over Vorm and tap the ball into the empty net for a debut goal for the striker.
Norwich are still looking for their first win of the season after being held to a goalless draw at home toWest Ham.
The Canaries had appeals for a first-half penalty rejected, with the referee correctly adjudging Andrew Surman to have been fouled by James Collins just outside the area.
West Ham also had their chances, with Carlton Cole’s early chance blocked and John Ruddy saving from Kevin Nolan.
However, neither side could find the crucial breakthrough and had to be content with a point apiece.
