Pop star Ed Sheeran has acquired a minority stake in Ipswich Town, as announced by the Premier League club on Thursday.
The 33-year-old singer-songwriter, a lifelong supporter of Ipswich, has taken a 1.4 percent share in the club. Sheeran has been a shirt sponsor for both the Ipswich men’s and women’s teams since 2021. However, the club stated that Sheeran will not be joining the board and his investment is purely passive.
Sheeran expressed his excitement about the investment, saying, “I’m thrilled to own a small part of my hometown football club. It’s every football fan’s dream to be an owner of the team they support, and I’m grateful for this opportunity.”
Ipswich Town is making its return to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years this season.
Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton commented, “Ed and his team’s support over the past three years has been incredible, and this investment feels like a natural progression in our relationship.”
Ipswich will start their new Premier League campaign with a home match against Liverpool on Saturday.
