The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to discipline officers seen in a viral video allegedly harassing an emerging rapper and his friend in the Abulado area of Lagos on Saturday, March 4.
The footage showed the officers stopping the vehicle the two men were travelling in, ordering them out, and instructing them to follow them to a different location for a search.
Tension rose when one of the men questioned why they were being moved away from the initial stop point and began recording the encounter. The officers reportedly reacted angrily and asked him to stop filming.
The video quickly triggered backlash online, with many Nigerians criticising the officers’ conduct.
In response, the police complaints unit disclosed via its official X account that Olatunji Disu has directed the Divisional Police Officer of Satellite Town to present the officers in Abuja on April 8 for disciplinary action. Authorities confirmed that the officers have been identified and will face appropriate sanctions.
“Dear members of the public, the policemen in the viral video have been identified and appropriate disciplinary actions await them accordingly. We seek your support and trust as we fight impunity to a standstill,” the post reads.
