Eye witness accounts reported on several outlets revealed that two men in mufti claiming to be police officers were waiting at the Abuja Airport as the Super Eagles delegation arrived from Zambia.
The men stated that their mission was to arrest the League Management Company Chairman, Shehu Dikko who they claim was wanted by the Abuja Police Commissioner.
Having failed to provide IDs nor warrants, it was gathered that Dikko told them he would take their numbers and would see the CP in the morning.
At this point, Super Eagles players were hurriedly ushered into their bus and driven off as the situation escalated.
An eye witness said: “One of the men pointed his side arm at Kelvin Omuojine as he took his picture and discharged the firearm in the air as other journalists gathered.
“His colleague also joined in with a drawn firearm as he threatened to shoot all of us journalists.
“We made it clear to them they couldn’t shoot all of us before they were overpowered”
