It was gathered that the diesel was confiscated by policemen when it was being moved to Lagos.
A witness, Babalola Wale, who is also a friend of the suspect SAID that the N1 million became a bad debt, after the diesel was confiscated, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

He was subsequently arraigned before Magistrate Margaret Dan-Oni of an Ikeja Magistrate  Court who granted him bail in the sum of N150,000, with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties named Sulaiman Ola, was said to have also paid N200,000 from the debt.
According to the suspect’s counsel, Olufowobi Adeniyi, the policemen on September 19, 2013 asked the suspect to bring his car to the police station which was impounded as a collateral for the money he was owing.

Olufowobi said he had been going about to make sure his client got back his car, as the car is the means of his livelihood, since he lost all his money in the diesel business.

The suspect’s surety was, however, arrested and detained on Sunday, November 10, 2013 and was supposed to appear at the magistrate court yesterday,  for his bail application, when the suspect who was said to have been at large, was sighted by the surety’s relatives and informed Policemen, inside the court which led to his being arrested and beaten within the court premises.

Olufowobi said the actions of the Policemen violate the fundamental human rights of his client.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Dan Oni has discharged the surety, Sulaiman Ola.
