The police have arrested Jarret Tenebe, the deputy chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state.
Tenebe’s arrest occurred less than 48 hours before the state house of assembly election, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 18.
The APC leader was allegedly arrested on the orders of the state’s deputy governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu.
The APC chieftain was reportedly arrested in his hometown of Ikabigbo in the Etsako west local government area of the state for an unspecified reason.
Tenebe is well-known in the state as a grassroots mobilizer for the APC and a staunch supporter of the former governor, Adams Oshiomhole. He was said to have accused the deputy governor of various offenses.
On Tuesday, March 14, the APC accused the state government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of attempting to rig the election on Saturday by deploying thugs in various disguises.
The arrest has been confirmed by Col. David Imuse (red) and Ofure Osehobo, the state APC chairman and assistant publicity secretary.
However, as of the time of writing this report, the police had yet to respond to inquiries about the arrest, and the police public relations officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, had not returned his calls.
