Dr. Fred Ekpa Ayokhai and his daughter were arrested for assault by the Nasarawa State Police Command.
Following the viral video of the incident, DSP Ramhan Nansel, Public Relations Officer, issued a statement.
Ayokhai, an associate professor in the Department of History and International Studies at the Federal University of Lafia, and his wife, Emmanuela Ayokhai, are being held in detention.
The vehicle used to transport the victim to a location along Kwandere road in Lafia, where she was assaulted, has been recovered, according to the police.
The victim and Emmanuela had a misunderstanding about a man named IG, according to preliminary investigation.
The victim accused Emmanuela of kidnapping and assaulting her alleged boyfriend.
In retaliation, Emmanuela rallied her family, pursued the victim, and assaulted her. She was beaten with a stick, flogged, and stripped naked.
The Commissioner of Police, AIG Adesina Soyemi, has ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, according to Nansel.
The CP also ordered that those arrested be charged in court once the investigation at the State Criminal Department in Lafia was completed.
