Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one half of the famous music duo P-Square, has finally responded after his twin brother, Paul Okoye, accused him of being involved in his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Okoye brothers, who originally parted ways in 2017 due to a dispute over the management role of their older brother, Jude Okoye, reconciled in November 2021 and reunited for a headline concert in December of that year.
However, recent comments from Paul suggest that P-Square is no longer active, and he has claimed that Peter was behind his arrest by the EFCC.
In response, Peter Okoye took to social media on Monday to question his brother’s intentions and defend his contributions to the group.
Peter, aged 42, denied Paul’s allegations, stressing that he is not in competition with his brother and expressing frustration over what he sees as a distorted narrative being shared with their fans.
He also refuted Paul’s claim that he was solely responsible for writing the majority of P-Square’s songs, criticizing his brother for allegedly tarnishing the legacy of their once-iconic music group.
Peter wrote, “My dear brother Paul,
“As I’ve told you many times before, I am not in competition with you or anyone else. However, it’s disheartening to see you give multiple interviews where you constantly downplay my efforts in the group we both created and built together. In your recent interviews, you claimed that you wrote and sang 99% of all P-SQUARE songs, and you discredited me by labeling our song with TI, ‘EjeaJo,’ which I wrote, as a failure. You even used YouTube views to discredit me again.
“You never acknowledged the other songs like ‘Get-Squared,’ ‘Bizzy Body,’ ‘Personally,’ ‘Roll It,’ ‘Temptation,’ ‘Alingo,’ ‘More than a Friend,’ ‘Shekini,’ ‘Say Your Love,’ ‘Gimme Dat,’ ‘Senorita,’ ‘IGBEdu,’ and several others. Were these songs also considered failures?
“Whenever I’ve spoken in interviews about P-SQUARE, I’ve always used ‘we’ and ‘us’ because I saw us as a team. But when you speak, it’s always ‘I’ and ‘me,’ even when I’m right beside you. It’s as if I never existed.”
My dear brother Paul,
Just like I have told you several times, I am not in any competition with you or anybody else. However, seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly discredit my efforts in the group that we both created and built together really speaks… pic.twitter.com/a3zMF6P3tI— Mr Psquare (@PeterPsquare) August 12, 2024
