Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has responded to allegations that he oversaw the killings at Anambra State’s notorious Awkuzu SARS during his tenure as governor.
Remember that some critics, particularly the opposition, blamed Obi for the massive atrocities committed by the now-disbanded Anambra State police force.
But, while answering questions on the Arise Tv Morning Show on Monday, Obi denied any involvement in the activities of the defunct police unit.
He claimed that as governor of Anambra State, he had no authority over Awkuzu SARS.
“The Awkuzu SARS was there before I became a Governor. It was a police formation that used to be controlled by the Federal Government. It was like when someone said that I ordered people to arrest him, I was not the police; I was the Governor”, he said.
