Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over the misuse of his AI-generated images in online advertisements.
Obi warns against unauthorised image use
In a public statement on Sunday titled “Public Disclaimer on Misuse of My Images”, Obi disclosed that several individuals and organisations have been using AI-created photos of him to promote products and business schemes without his consent.
“Ordinarily, I would gladly support any genuine endeavour by Nigerians that contributes positively to our nation and to the people involved, but not without authorisation,” Obi stated.
Warns public against fraudulent activities
The LP flagbearer noted that some of these adverts were being deployed by “unscrupulous persons” to scam unsuspecting Nigerians. He emphasised that despite repeated rebuttals from his team, the trend has continued.
“For this reason, I wish to state categorically that I am not associated with any of these advertisements. Despite numerous rebuttals issued by my team, these practices have persisted. This has therefore compelled me to once again caution the public to exercise vigilance and to disregard any such adverts linking me to products, endorsements, or business schemes,” Obi said.
Reiterates stance on integrity
The former governor stressed his commitment to transparency, integrity, and supporting ventures that genuinely serve the common good.
“I remain committed to promoting transparency, integrity, and ventures that genuinely advance the common good of our society,” he added.
