Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has addressed his absence at the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which took place on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.
His absence drew attention and criticism from some quarters. However, Obi clarified that his inability to attend was due to travel constraints.
Despite missing the Tuesday burial, the former Anambra State governor traveled to Daura the following day, Wednesday, to pay his respects and condole with the late President’s family.
“It was difficult to come yesterday (Tuesday) because there was no flight,” Obi told Arise TV.
“Even if there was a flight, you couldn’t land in Katsina Airport. It was all closed, because there was a lot of dignitaries.
“Mourning continues until tomorrow. So, whoever comes today and tomorrow, is still part of the mourning.”
