The Pentagon is reportedly seeking $200 billion in funding for the ongoing war in Iran, as Donald Trump considers deploying thousands of additional troops to the region.
The request follows a study indicating that the United States spent approximately $3.7 billion about $891.4 million daily within the first 100 hours of Operation Epic Fury, with total costs rising to $11 billion in just the first week.
According to multiple sources cited by The Washington Post, the Pentagon has urged the White House to formally present the funding request to Congress.
However, it remains uncertain whether the White House will proceed, as opposition from Democrats and resistance from figures like Rand Paul could make it difficult to secure the 60 votes needed to bypass a filibuster.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is reportedly weighing the option of sending thousands of troops to strengthen its presence in the Middle East, according to U.S. officials and sources familiar with the discussions.
The potential deployment would provide more flexibility as the conflict with Iran enters its third week. Among the options being considered is ensuring safe passage for oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, primarily through air and naval operations.
However, securing the vital waterway could also involve deploying U.S. troops along Iran’s coastline, sources revealed.
There have also been discussions about sending ground forces to Kharg Island, which serves as the hub for about 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports.
One official cautioned that such a move would carry significant risks, as Iran has the capability to target the island using missiles and drones.
