Nigerian streamer Peller has finally spoken out after being linked to an unauthorised visit to the palace of the Oba of Benin.
The controversy began after the Benin Traditional Council (BTC) announced that a palace queen who allegedly granted him access is now facing possible disciplinary action, including expulsion. The development reportedly left Peller surprised after his team informed him during his ongoing nationwide tour.
While he initially tried to explain the reason for his visit, his team advised him to remain silent to avoid making statements that could be used against him.
Background of the incident
According to the BTC, Peller entered the palace on March 6, 2026, without the required approval. The council described the act as a serious violation of palace protocol and a desecration of a sacred institution.
In a statement signed by BTC Secretary Frank Irabor, the council confirmed that strict actions have been taken against those involved. A chief linked to the incident has been suspended indefinitely, while a palace staff member, Mr. Omuemu, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force and charged in court for breach of peace.
The council also revealed that the queen involved is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings, which could lead to her removal in line with Benin customs.
Peller was invited to appear before a committee of chiefs to give his account but has reportedly not honoured the invitation. The council insists he must present himself and submit a written apology for the incident, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action.
The BTC further emphasized that the palace remains a sacred institution rooted in centuries-old traditions and is committed to preserving the dignity and authority of the Oba of Benin.
