The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) involved in anti-party activities were not disciplined by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). On Thursday, it was reported that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party would submit a list of PDP members who engaged in anti-party activities that led to the defeat of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate, to the NEC. The list was said to contain the name of Nyesom Wike, the former Rivers State governor, who openly worked against Atiku. Wike, along with his counterparts in Oyo, Benue, Ebonyi, and Abia states, opposed Atiku and supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu. Wike’s opposition to Atiku’s presidential ambition was because Atiku did not choose him as his running mate. A member of the NEC who attended the meeting, choosing to remain anonymous, stated that the NWC did not submit any list, but rather, the NEC appointed Udom Emmanuel, the former Akwa Ibom State Governor, as the chairman of the disciplinary committee. Dr Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President and ex-governor of Kwara State, was appointed to lead reconciliation efforts in the party. The PDP Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), was appointed as the chairman of the constitution amendment committee. Atiku and Wike both attended the meeting but did not speak during the closed-door session, and no NEC member discussed the events of the 2023 presidential election. The NEC set up disciplinary, reconciliation, and constitution amendment committees. The reconciliation committee will be led by Saraki, the disciplinary committee will be chaired by Udom Emmanuel, and Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) will head the constitution amendment committee. The NWC did not submit a report on anti-party actions to the NEC, and all issues were directed to the relevant committees.
