Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors will hold a “crucial meeting” in Abuja on Sept. 17.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom, Chief Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The statement was signed by Mr Anietie Ekong, Special Assistant on Media to the Governor.
Though the agenda of the meeting was not released, sources said the forthcoming PDP primaries and its National Convention, among other issues, would be discussed at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the forum has congratulated Gov. Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State, the state party chapter and the people of the state on the recent peaceful conduct of local government elections.
The forum said in the statement that it was remarkable that PDP under the leadership of Shema won in all the 34 local government areas and 361 wards in the state.
“This victory further confirms the confidence the good people of Katsina have in our great party which they have kept faith with since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in 1999.
“It is also noteworthy that PDP is the party with a real national transformation agenda under the leadership of the President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“The PDP administration, led by Dr Adamu Mu’azu, has also kept faith with the good people of Katsina State and Nigerians who have witnessed quantum leap in democratic dividends,” it said.
It said the party’s victory in the state was an indication of many more victories for it in the years ahead and urged Nigerians to keep on supporting the PDP.
