The governor is about to complete his second term as governor of Enugu state, and he is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the district election, which was held on Saturday, February 25, according to Premium Times.
On Monday, February 27, at around 5:20 a.m., the returning officer for the election, Chukwuemeka Ubaka, announced the results at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) collation centre in the Nsukka local government area headquarters.
Mr Ezea, the LP candidate, received 104,492 votes to defeat Mr Ugwuanyi, the PDP candidate, who received 46,948 votes.
Ejike Eze, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the district, received 6,816 votes to finish third.
Mr Ubaka, a professor, stated that Mr Ezea was declared the winner because he “justified all the requirements of the law” by receiving the most votes in the election.
There had previously been some minor drama at the senatorial district collation center when the returning officer stated that he would not collate the senatorial district results until he received the authentic forms for results and declaration.
