There are rumors that Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential contender, agreed to back Governor Nyesom Wike for the 2027 presidency. The Atiku Abubakar campaign denied making such a promise to the governor of Rivers state in the wake of this allegation, according to the Leadership Newspaper.
According to Senator Dino Melaye, Atiku and Governor Wike never discussed the 2027 presidential ticket. Senator Dino Melaye, a former member of the 8th Assembly and spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, refuted the accusations, claiming that no such arrangement existed.
Senator Melaye stated that there was never even a conversation of that nature between his principal and Governor Wike.
He said: “I speak for Atiku Abubakar that no such discussion between Atiku Abubakar and Governor Wike of Rivers State. At no time did Atiku Abubakar discuss such with Governor Wike.
“Atiku never promise or discuss 2027 with Governor Wike or anyone for that matter. Coming from The Nation Newspaper, you should understand.”
Despite expressing suspicion about the nature of the circulating report, Senator Melaye claimed he was unsurprised by the information given that it came from a news source run by Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressive Congress, Atiku’s opponent (APC).
