The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers state has described High Chief Raymond Dokpesi as a first class candidate among those seeking the national chairmanship position of the party.
Felix Obuah, the chairman of the party in the state disclosed this at the party’s secretariat, yesterday, when Chief Dokpesi and his team visited Rivers state during his campaign tour.
“Democracy is practice at its fullness in Rivers state. We have respect for constituted authority. The leaders listen to the followers and the followers listen to the leaders. I am almost tempted by your credentials to say why are you bothering yourself coming to us because we are your sons. You are a first class candidate. Your name rings bell in the heart of everybody because of your credentials. With your establishment, you gave a voice to the masses. You are a supporter of the youths and a champion of democracy,” Obuah said.
The PDP chairman who praised the leader of the party in the state, Barrister Nyesome Wike for policies which have restored the glory of Rivers state, assured Chief Dokpesi that delegates from the state will support him after due consultation between the leaders and the followers.
“You mentioned two things while talking, that we should pray for you and endorse you. I can assure you that we will pray for you that God grant your heart desires because power belong to God. On the day of the convention, we will all go as one and if you are adopted, we will all vote for you, no single delegate will fail you. The decision of adoption will be taken by the leaders of the party in the state and with your credentials, there is nothing to fear,” he added.
Chief Dokpesi during his speech pledged to return power to the peoples when elected as the chairman of the party. He said the party needs a leader that will serve as an umbrella for Nigerians. He said he is ready to lead a strong, united and credible PDP that will win elections in 2019 and ensure Nigerians have the dividends of democracy.
He praised Gov. Wike Obuah and PDP members in the state for ensuring that Rivers state remains a PDP state, stating that the party will win any election conducted in the state.
Chief Dokpesi and his team, made up of eminent Nigerians including the former Chief whip of the senate, Victor Kassim Oyofo, have visited Edo, Delta, Anambra, Imo and Bayelsa, with a promise to tour all the states of the federation before the August 17 National Convention.
