Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Jimmy Odukoya, recently shared a powerful testimony, revealing that his decision to keep his dreadlocks was a divine instruction from God, tied to a greater purpose — to save a life.
During a recent sermon, Pastor Jimmy explained that after the passing of his father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, he sought spiritual direction before stepping fully into his new role. One of his main questions was whether to cut his hair.
“I asked God if I should cut my hair, and He clearly told me not to,” he said. “To confirm it, I asked my sister to pray about it too — and she came back with the same answer.”
What initially seemed like a personal conviction later turned out to be a divine setup. Pastor Jimmy recounted the emotional story of a Zimbabwean woman who traveled all the way to Nigeria just to see him. She told him about a vision she had back in 2016 while in New York, in which she saw a man with long hair speaking life and encouragement over her.
Years later, in 2025, her life had taken a hard turn. She lost everything in a painful divorce and also witnessed the heartbreaking passing of her mother. In her quest to reconnect with God, she turned to YouTube — and stumbled upon a sermon by Pastor Jimmy. The moment she saw him, she screamed — he was the man from her vision.
What moved Pastor Jimmy most was that when she had the vision in 2016, he didn’t even have dreadlocks yet. “God, in His infinite wisdom, knew this woman would need to see a man who looked exactly like the one from her vision,” he said. “If I had cut my hair, I would have missed the divine purpose tied to it.”
He added, “God asked me to keep my hair, not for me, but to save a life.”
Jimmy Odukoya took over the leadership of The Fountain of Life Church following his father’s passing in August 2023, stepping into the role with both humility and boldness.
