Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called on the Nigerian government to take swift and decisive action against terrorists and their financiers before any possible U.S. military intervention takes place.
The respected cleric made the statement during the November Holy Ghost Service on Friday, addressing recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Nigeria’s security crisis.
Adeboye advised President Bola Tinubu to issue a three-month ultimatum to the newly appointed service chiefs, instructing them to eliminate both terrorists and their sponsors. He further warned that any service chief who fails to deliver within that time frame should resign.
He said, “This is not the time for apportioning blame. Our President inherited this problem; it started before him.”
Reflecting on past administrations, Adeboye recalled his private counsel to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, where he urged strong and immediate action as insecurity worsened advice that, according to him, was not implemented effectively.
He noted, “Some of you will remember who called the service chiefs together and said, ‘I give you three months, get rid of all these Boko Haram people or resign.’ He acted on that advice, but three months passed, and the work was not done.”
The pastor stressed that this time, the government must go beyond surface-level efforts and hold military leaders fully accountable, ensuring they confront not only terrorists but also their sponsors regardless of their political or financial influence.
He added, “When giving orders to the service chiefs this time, we should make it clear that they are to eliminate the terrorists and their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be.”
Adeboye’s remarks serve as a strong call for decisive national action, urging the government to tackle terrorism comprehensively and prevent any foreign interference by addressing the root causes and financial networks behind the violence.
