A 28-year-old woman, Joy Ekulu recently committed an abominable act when she nearly cut her own son into two.
However, the child, Innocent was saved from her grip by neighbours before deed could be successful accomplished.
The neighbours and other eyewitnesses however said that the little boy’s intestine was already visible before he was saved.
Joy a native of Benue State was married to her husband also from the same state and father of the lad for three years.
She claimed that after three years of union, she asked that her husband pay her bride price, so that the union could be regarded as proper. After much dillydallying on the part of her husband, she decided to pack out of his house until he pays the bride price, back then leaving the child in the custody of the father.
After she left, her husband left their native town of Katsina Ala in Benue for Kano, and from their native town she used to send money on a regularly basis as her contribution towards the upkeep of the boy.
But later she claimed that she got wind of the fact that the boy was not been properly taken care off, hence she went to Kano to ask for the custody of the child.
On arrival in Kano, where her ex-husband resides, she told him her mission and demanded for the child to be given to her. But her ex-husband declined. Perhaps, he must have said that the child was principally his and not hers. After so much appeal, Thomas still bluntly refused to release Innocent to Joy, 28.
Hence she resolved to cut the child into two.
She is presently in the custody of the Kano State Police Command from where she spoke to our correspondent
Joy: “I got engaged to Thomas 11 years ago and we lived together as husband and wife for about three years before God eventually blessed our union. When the marriage was three years old, I told my husband to let us meet my parents and pay the bride price which would certify us as couple but he refused.”
She, however, said that she was full of regret after realising what she had done. “I didn’t know that it would not be easy. The intestine of Innocent was about coming out before people within the vicinity came out to rescue him. I regret causing unnecessary harm to my child because I didn’t know it would result into this situation. What followed was that I found myself in the police custody and right now, I don’t know what will be the end of the matter.”
