Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson wants to move prisons after learning a jail gang is plotting to kill him.
The 29-year-old paedophile is currently serving a six year sentence at Moorland Prison in Yorkshire for sexual activity with a child.
He was briefly moved into solitary confinement for his safety earlier this year after he was recorded bragging about sleeping with a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
But now back in the main area of the prison, Johnson has been tipped off by a fellow inmate that a group are planning to slit his throat with a makeshift knife, a source told The Sun.
The terrified former England star is fearful for his life and is understood to be drawing up a request to move prisons.
His unpopularity inside the jail comes after in April the ex-Sunderland winger was filmed whinging to other inmates about how badly he had been treated.
When another prisoner pointed out that he did not commit rape Johnson laughed and said: ‘I wish I f***ing did for six year.’
A source told the paper another inmate was doing Johnson a favour by tipping him off but it had left the 29-year-old beside himself with worry.
