The Nigerian gospel music community has been plunged into mourning following the death of popular musician Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, widely recognized by her stage name, Omije Ojumi.
A Prolonged Battle
The singer passed away on Tuesday following a long struggle with a severe leg ailment. Her death comes months after she publicly sought spiritual intervention for the condition. In 2025, a video from a church service in Ibadan circulated online, showing the singer seated with her leg outstretched while a cleric revealed she was suffering from persistent bleeding, prompting the congregation to pray for her.
From Banking to the Pulpit
Akinnanu rose to fame in the early 2000s after leaving a decade-long career in the banking sector to pursue music full-time. She adopted her stage name from her debut album, Omije Oju Mi (Tears of My Eyes), which catapulted her to stardom.
A Rich Legacy
A graduate of Lagos State University and Lagos State Polytechnic, she leaves behind a legacy of inspirational music, including albums such as Dabira, Alatilehin, Ma Sunkun Mo, and Testimony.
