Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, the acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), officially began his duties at the central bank’s Abuja headquarters on Friday.

As a result of the formal resignations of Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora as Deputy Governors of the CBN, the Deputy-Governors-Designate have also taken over their positions in an acting capacity.
Isa AbdulMumin, the bank’s director of corporate communications, signed a press release by the CBN on Friday that contained confirmation of this development.
On September 15, 2023, according to Naija News, President Bola Tinubu selected Cardoso and the Deputy Governors to serve as acting governors while the Nigerian Senate considered their confirmation.
Friday’s brief event was held at the Bank’s head office in Abuja, where Cardoso and the Deputies took the oaths of office.

Cardoso is the commissioner for economic planning and budget in Lagos State as well as a financial sector leader, a former chairman of Citi Nigeria, and an advisor on economic and development policy. He brings with him more than three decades of managerial expertise.
Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom, is where the acting CBN Governor studied managerial and administrative studies. Additionally, he has a Master of Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.
